Being out in nature and letting your eyes rest of green plants and trees can help you to relax.  It is also a good way to get exercise which will further relax you.  Being out in the sun for an hour or less is good for your skin and will help you to chill out.
2.) Visit a Museum
There is a good chance that your city has an art museum somewhere.  Take the time to go through the museum.  This will help you to relax.  If you don’t have an art museum or have already been there a few times, you might want to check out art galleries or antique stores.  These are all good places to destress.
3.) Eat a Light Meal
Eating can help you relax but if you eat something heavy it could make you tired or drowsy.  Eating a light meal will help your body relax without overtaxing it.
4.) Pet Your Pets
Animals love to be petted and it is a well-known fact that the help people to relax.  They lower stress hormones.  Talking to them helps as well.  If you don’t have pets or can’t have them then get some plants and talk to them.
5.) Meditate
Meditation is an ages-old way to relax.  If you don’t know how, visit with a Buddhist for tips.
6.) Call an Old Friend
Having long conversations with an old friend can help you to relax.  Laughing can help a lot, so if you have a particularly humorous friend then give him a call.  If they are near enough to visit with in person then have a social encounter as seeing a friend, or even better, a group of friends will definitely help you to relax.
7.) Take a Warm Bath or Shower
Taking a warm bath or shower will help calm your nerves and body.  Don’t overheat the water or you will lose some of the benefits.  If you have access to a swimming pool then go for a light swim as this will also help you to relax.
8.) Go to the Beach or a Lake
Being around large bodies of water will help your body and mind relax.  The waves are particularly soothing.  Going to the beach is more relaxing than going to a lake, but either one will contribute to a sense of well-being.
9.) Have a Glass of Wine
Wine has been proven to help relax the mind, spirit and soul.  Don’t drink a whole bottle though or you won’t be able to relax very much.

Learn to Relax Your Body

01322512669_relax.jpgLearning how to relax will help you control your stress. When most of us think about relaxing, we think of the usual, laying on the couch reading a book or watching our favorite program. We do not think about really relaxing and putting our bodies and our minds in a deep state of relaxation.

POSITION – Sit or lay down in a comfortable position where there is not any weight being distributed uncomfortably. Do not have your legs or arms crossed. I prefer to lay down with my upper body raised up with pillows so that I am in a semi sitting up position.QUIET – This really needs to be done in a quiet room of your home and during a time that you will not be disturbed.CLOSE YOUR EYES – Begin relaxing by closing your eyes for a minute or two.RELAXING YOUR BODY – Tell yourself in your mind to relax your head, relax your neck, relax your shoulders, relax your arms, relax your hands, relax your body, relax your legs, relax your feet. Feel the tension leave your body. RELAX YOUR MIND – In your mind picture a set of stairs going down. Each stair is numbered from 10 down to 1. Picture yourself walking down the stairs slowly, seeing each number as you step upon it. When you get to the bottom of the stairs you will be in a deep relaxation. Knowing how to relax your mind will help you through difficult situations.CLEAR YOUR MIND – When you are at the bottom of the stairs you can tell yourself your message of the day. Such as “my knee will not hurt today”, or “I will have a good day”. Concentrate on only one message at a time.RETURN – When you are ready, slowly picture yourself walking up the stairs, one at a time, counting the numbers back up to 10. When you get to the top you will be out of your deep relaxation, but you can still lay still with your eyes closed for a moment until you feel like opening them up. Do this technique as often as you need to.Take the stress out of your life by learning how to control your mind, body and soul. You can put yourself into a deep trance whenever you need to or on a regular schedule to keep stress out of your life. Live a happier, fuller, and stress free life learning how to relax.

Ten Relaxation Techniques

11322263781_relax.jpgA few good relaxation techniques can save your life, because stress is more than just unpleasant. It’s also dangerous to your health. Disciplined practices such as meditation can help relieve that stress, but what if you don’t have the time or motivation? Maybe you need to try a few of these simple ways to relax.

1. Hug someone. Giving a hug means getting one. As long as it’s from somebody you don’t mind hugging you, this really can be relaxing.
2. Interrupt routines. Go talk to that guy sleeping on the bench, or eat lunch on the roof. Just doing anything that breaks you out of your habitual patterns can relieve stress.
3. Have a hot shower. It relaxes your muscles, and any break from more stressful activities can help too. Some find that an alternating hot and cold shower is even more relaxing.
4. Try watching your mind. Spot the stressors lurking just below the surface (hunger, worry, a phone call you need to make), and you can resolve them and feel more relaxed. If you practice this mindfulness exercise, it may become one of your favorite relaxation techniques.
5. Try laughing. Your own experience shows that this helps you relax, right? Go find a guy that knows all the best jokes, or find something funny in front of you.
6. Use relaxing music. Keep your favorite relaxation CD at the office, in the car, or wherever you’ll need it most.
7. Leave the room for a while. This can really help if the things in the room or related to it are triggering your stressful thoughts. Why not get out for a little while?
8. Breath deeply. Try five deep breaths through your nose. Close your eyes and pay attention only to your breathing while doing this. It’s like a mini-meditation, and perhaps the most effective of the quick relaxation techniques.
9. Drink some chamomile tea. Chamomile tea seems to have a calming effect on the nerves. Any hot tea without caffeine may be relaxing.
10. Walk a while. If you have at least ten minutes to spare, walking is one of the best relaxation techniques. While you’re at it, find a pretty place to walk.
Naturally, it is ideal if you can change yourself, so you’re naturally more relaxed all of the time. Perhaps the thought of the work involved in this just stresses you more. In that case you might have to take it slow, so why not start with one or two of the simple relaxation techniques above?
